Missing Blog Posts

We haven't posted in a really long time,  and we haven't really gotten into the habit, and I don't think we will.  So here's  a brief run down of what we have been up to:
In August we were in Cape Town South Africa for a week ; it was a work trip were we took a few days at the end.  The sights were really amazing, from Table mountain to the coastline to the wine region.  The history of South Africa is fascinating.

This is us on Table Mountain, which you get to by a cable car, we had the good fortune of being there on a cloudless day, even though it was during the rainy season.

The shots you get from Table mountain look like you're shooting from a plane.  Table Mountain is in set of mountains which surround the city.  One last photo, these little guys, called Dassie(?) which is the dutch word for badger, they are all over Table Mountain, it's the only place the live,  it's closest living relative is the elephant.  The tusks are very small, you have to look closely.

The Cape of Good Hope; from our drive around the coast line, more photos of that follow:

Next up is photos from the City Center:
I don't remember who the statue is of, I believe an african leader.
There's an interesting mix of old and new architecture in down town.
The church where Desmond Tutu used to preach at, central to the apartheid struggle.

Cecil Rhodes, for whom Rhodesia which now Zambia and Zimbabwe was orginally named.  The next set of photos is from my trip to Robben Island, the prison island where Mandela, among many others was held.

Leaving the harbor with Table Mountain in the back ground.
Approaching the dock, the buildings on the dock used to be the prisoner processing buildings.
 The Prison warden's house
The arbor where Mandela hid books.
A cell, I don't know if this was Mandela's, the tour guide who was a former prisoner was difficult to understand.  The individual cells were tiny, the minimum sentence was 5 years, minor infractions would result in 10 year sentences or longer.

This is a food allowance card for prisoners on the left the colored or non-african prisoners and on the right the allowance for the african prisoners.
Last is some photos from the Wine region:
 A view of the valley
 The africaner's monument.

All in all it was a really cool trip even though we only spent a few days vacationing.

Next we went to Ghana, we Kim was going for a conference.  I haven't uploaded the pictures for that yet so I will do another post in detail about the trip, we had a chance the weekend after the conference to see the country a little and the slave castles were really interesting.
A one last thing, which was the most fun thing I have done here so far: We were in a charge car race!  Basically it's an offroad race in 4 wheel drive cars in the bush!  It was for a conservation charity.  And it was lots of fun.  I haven't uploaded the pictures yet and it really deserves it's own post.
